Saving StoryBooks to DVD

When I have ordered my StoryBook I like to save a copy of the completed file to a DVD-R. The StoryBook files can be quite large though, and a DVD only holds 4.7 GB. Here are a couple of tips to make your files smaller.

  1. Open your Storybook
  2. Click on the Start Menu, then Click Properties
  3. Note the path of the current project. In this example, the path is M:\SBC Current Projects\2010, where M is the name of the drive (my external hard drive), SBC Current Projects is the folder name, and 2010 is the name of the Storybook.
  4. Close the Storybook.
  5. Open Windows Explorer. Navigate to the folder you have just noted, which contains your Storybook. You will find there a folder with the same name as the Storybook e.g. in my case “2010”.
  6. Inside that folder you will find lots of page files and 2 folders, one called images, and one called recycle. WARNING: Only do this AFTER you have finalised and ordered your Storybook.
  7. Delete the contents of the Images folder & the recycle folder. This could save you 2-3G of space. It will not affect the contents of the Storybook, but would make it more difficult for you to make any changes to the Storybook, that is why I recommend not doing it until after the book is printed.

It is possible even after doing this that you will not be able to fit your Storybook on one DVD. In that case you can zip your files, or use DVD burning software to split the files across 2 DVD’s. If you do that you would need to copy the Storybook back to your computer if you wanted to re-upload it at a later date.
