Some of you may know that I have been on a weight loss journey.  My goal is to lose 100 pounds before my 39th Birthday on June 21, 2014.  My ultimate goal is to lose 126 pounds overall.  Well I am halfway there.  I have lost 49 pounds already and am steady going in only 9 weeks.

I was inspired to lose weight when I saw that one of my sorority sisters had lost 130 pounds (give or take) in about a year’s time.  I watched her Facebook posts as she got smaller and smaller until I finally got up enough courage to ask her, “What did you do to lose all this weight?”  I was almost positive that she had some sort of surgery.  I am too chicken to have surgery so I was sure she would be of no help to me.  Well, she caught me completely off  guard when she told me that she did it the all natural way – eating right and exercise.  Eating right and exercise… what a novel thought!  “That can’t be easy,” I thought.  Jada confirmed that fact, but said she did it with a lot of help from Denise Warren and her Body By Denise (BBD) Family.  I think Jada’s exact words were… “I have a size 9 shoe up my a## on a regular basis to keep me motivated.”

Now I had heard about Denise Warren for years.  Maybe close to two decades.  She has a reputation of tough love and results.  I was never motivated to even look into her class until I witnessed Jada transform before my eyes.  I decided that day that I would join Body By Denise when I returned from my two week camping vacation.  I contacted my friend and Soror Keisha who said she would join me as well.  We attended five classes together before my vacation started.  I returned to BBD ready to burn rubber on July 13, 2013.

After a week of working out, I was encouraged to join a BBD Support Group.  I had already lost 9 lbs since my first BBD visit (13 lbs. over all since my birthday on June 21, 2013).  I was officially placed in a group on July 22, 2013.    That was when the pounds starting melting off. 7 weeks after that, (leading up to labor day weekend), I lost an additional 32 pounds.  Denise Warren would say it was as a result of hard work and dedication.   It indeed was hard work because 5 days every week for 2 hours per day I had to go to BBD for fitness.  Then I had to be extra conscious of what I was eating and plan ahead for my meals.  Denise gave us the tools we needed to know.

One day, I was feeling a little bit weary and defeated as I was doing my laps when a fellow BBD Member said that Denise wanted all of the groups to come inside.  Denise had something for us.  As a reward for our hard work, dedication and consistent results, Denise gave 8 members of my group a Royal Purple shirt to wear on Blue Day.  The dance floor (workout room) was filled with about 300 people ready to work out, when Denise introduced us to everyone as an Elite Fleet of weight losers.  A sea of blue filled the room, and everyone was clapping for US!  They were clapping for ME!  It was the most amazing feeling ever.  I would never have thought that a purple shirt would change my life, but it did.  At that very moment, standing in front of everyone in my purple shirt, I felt empowered.  I felt like I could do anything.  That is a long way from feeling DEFEATED.   As I continue my weight loss journey, I need only look to that purple shirt for encouragement.  HARD WORK AND DEDICATION IS WHAT WE DO IN THE BBD NATION!
