Mary's Blog Header New

Sometimes life just doesn’t go according to our best laid plans! More than once (a lot more than once actually) life just hasn’t gone according to my plans and my timing. (Key word here “my”).  It’s only been in hindsight that I can say that God’s plan and God’s timing have always worked out so much better than mine.  Many years ago, Susan Iida-Pederson, when she was on the Home Office staff at Creative Memories, gave a speech about “Choosing Joy”.  It struck a cord with me and I have attempted to live that daily. (Some days much more successfully than others). My motto for years now has been “Choose Joy, Embrace Change and Struggle Well”.  Like many of us though, sometimes how we want to live and how we, do are two different things.  So it’s been for me the last few months.  First, life happened with family.  No details, just suffice it to say it wasn’t fun! Then, my sweet dog had to be put to sleep for cancer.  Life happened.

I like to hope that now, I try and see the lessons God has for me while in the midst of struggles instead of years down the road.  He did remind me that joy is not in my circumstances but in Him.  I have this little glass pebble  in my office that Susan gave me years ago.  It fell off my shelf and hit me in the head this week.  I think that was the first attention getter! Then the theme of Day2Day was JOY!  So that was another hit.  Flowers arrived from a dear friend which were perfect in their timing and then I went to serve in a food pantry this past Saturday. My husband and I do this every month and I have to say the highlight of the morning was a hug from Irma and her attitude. She is always full of joy and gives absolutely the best hugs ever,  you know the kind, when someone wraps their arms around you and then just doesn’t let go til you feel their love. Irma is elderly and a Hurricane Katrina evacuee who moved here after that monster storm. She is always joyful.

So yes, I am joyful and have decided to try again the Day2Day project! (I made it thru June last year) I plan to stay inspired with help from my friends and the layouts on our fan page so keep them coming!  I think I may also incorporate the Gratitudes I record on my phone to help me keep life in perspective. (Thanks Carolyn for this idea). So when life happens,  I will “Choose Joy”.

You’ve encouraged me today. Life is happening, I need to adopt this attitude for my own circumstances…I can see this phrase in my Day2 Day album now! My mom always said, “This to shall pass”…that’s another good one to hang on to.

Thank you, Mary, for speaking to us from your heart! Blessings on you! <3

Tough times draw you near God. I’m thankful for them. And I am tremendously grateful to call you my friend. I’m sorry I didn’t know about your dog. I know from experience that the pain of that can be as excruciating as losing a loved human being. You are strong, Mary, and strong in the Lord. I have no doubt that you will come through all of this with flying colors, even if the colors have been somewhat distressed. :-). That’s what all great women are eventually, right? Shabby chic. 🙂

Love the motto – Choose Joy, Embrace Change, and Struggle Well. It is not always easy but usually turns out for the best if we can Choose Joy.

JOY…Jesus, Others, You. May He continue to hold you, keep you, and make His face to shine upon you, Mary! 🙂

  6. Oh Mary, well spoken and true! God does equip us for everything we need day to day. It’s our response that counts and what people actually see! Our attitude comes through loud and clear and sometimes it’s ugly and sometimes is joyful. Let’s keep choosing joy! I’m doing a Gratitude album this year also just from pics from my phone! Helps to keep perspective and focus on what is right and good in the world!

Great attitude! My daughter’s best friend was killed by a drunk driver 5 years ago this past week, I love that her mother’s motto is “Love Wins”! She has felt and received so much love from the people who were touched by Emily’s time here on earth! Sometimes we must choose our attitudes and then the feelings come!
