Sharing digital images by email is one way that digital technology has revolutionized the world of photography, and it is so easy to email photos from within Historian.
Setup for your email provider
To set up web email such as Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail & more, here are the steps:
1. In the top right corner of the Historian screen, click on Help > Options.
2. Select Email and click Add.
3. Choose your email provider from the drop down list (in my case, gmail) and enter your email account details.
- Full name is the name you use for your email account.
- Type your full email address and password.
- Description is your own personal name for this email type, you can enter anything you choose in that field.
4. Click OK.
5. If you have more than one email account, repeat the above steps for each account.
Sending the email
1. Choose the images you wish to email. You can use tags, star ratings, or pop the images into the work area.
2. On the Share Ribbon, click Email.
You could also right-click and choose Share > Email. If your images are in the Work Area, choose Share > Share > Email.
3. Choose your preferred email account.
4. If you wish, click Select to change or add to the selection of images.
5. Click Advanced Options.
6. Choose the file name, image size and quality and if desired a watermark. When ready, click OK.
When choosing the size of your image, keep in mind the size limits of your email program, the speed of your internet connection, and what the recipient plans to do with the images. Generally smaller is better for emailing, but if your recipient wants to print the images, you need to send larger file sizes. Historian will remember your settings for subsequent emails, so you do not need to reset them each time unless you require different settings.
7. Enter the relevant details in the email popup.
- The “From” field will already have your email address.
- Enter the recipent’s email address.
- Change the default subject from “Photos” if desired.
- Check that the correct number of attachments is included – click on the word “Attachments” if you need a last minute check.
- Add your personal message.
- When ready, click OK.
8. The email will send. You need to be connected to the internet, of course, but you don’t necessarily need to be logged in to your email program or even have your internet browser open.
Emailing using Microsoft Outlook
Microsoft Outlook is automatically included as the default email provider. If you use Microsoft Outlook, it is very easy to send emails from Historian.
Follow steps 1-5 above.
Outlook will open a new email message with your images attached, which you can complete and send in the usual way.
