I love colour, or was that color!!? Either way, I love it!

Early on in my life as a photographer, I learnt some exercises to explore your tastes and refine your creative style. One task was to pay attention to a variety of images and see what it was about them that you liked.  I learnt almost immediately that I love colour and colourful images. I also love a good black and white and I especially love portraits, but don’t let me get sidetracked!

I love the way that colours interplay and really love it when I find contrasting colours together in nature.

Colour is everywhere! I’ve recently seen some images from friends who are already in Madagascar doing some research and advance work before we arrive on the Africa Mercy in a week.  Fabulous market images, full of colour which makes me a little excited to get there and explore.

Meanwhile, we are sailing in that direction and this evening saw a beautifully coloured sunset, yellows, oranges, pinks, purples and blues.  Gorgeous!

Before we sailed we had just over two weeks in Cape Town, South Africa. We had a great time opening up the ship for visitors. 5000 plus people come through the ship to see where we live, work, go to school and most importantly to see the hospital and hear nurses tell their stories of patients whose lives have been transformed and the amazing things that happen there.

In our spare time, we got to explore Cape Town. It is a beautiful city. The natural beauty that is all around is incredible. We loved getting up Table Mountain and driving down to the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point, seeing baboons and ostrichs along the way.  One morning Annabelle, Charlotte and I took a taxi and visited a small township just out of the CBD called Bo Kaap.  We followed cobble stoned streets and found brightly colored houses that had been there for centuries.  They are so colourful and the lively little suburb sits at the foot of Signal Hill which also adds to it’s appeal. We all loved the colours and it made for a wonderful place to explore.

When I take pictures I look for color with contrast, luminosity, color WITH luminosity (be still my heart),texture, and linear design. So your colorful pictures of Bo Kaap are just eye candy to me. I do not get to travel, only rarely out of town, but your far away travel inspire me to keep finding these treasures even at home.

There’s nothing like color in the hands of a great photographer! Love your bloug, Juzzi!

Justine, I LOVE the colorful houses. Imagine how happy it would make a place like Northern New England feel in the dead of winter to have houses painted like this instead of the traditional white and natural colors which just blend into the white snow-covered landscape.

Oh, that looks like my kind of place!!

Your blog made me homesick. We spent our honeymoon in the Cape Town area, over 50 years ago and returned there quite a few times in the 1970’s with our children. We live in Canada now, but have a really soft spot for that area. Enjoy your travels.

I always type colour but the phone (and even here!) it automatically changes it to color!! A good read and lovely colours in the photos!
