Today is Daniel’s last official day of Year 12 before a study break and final exams that start next week. The last two years of school all lead up to these final days. He has committed to a hard slog of study, exams, tests, and dedication, and I couldn’t be prouder. This year he received a “High Achiever Award”, for outstanding work across all of his subjects for his Year 11 work, setting himself to continue with his subject choices for this year. I really couldn’t be prouder of his achievements, and his results over the last two years. Year 12 sees everything step up to a whole other level of intensity. There are more tests that contribute to the final scores for their ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank), and then the final exams, that then lead to university placements for courses dependant on the final ATAR score. It’s a lot of pressure! He has done so well during this year, and I’m hoping that he will achieve the ATAR score he wants to get into the University Course that will suit his dream.
This week at school has been a week of celebrations and theme days. Monday they wore their old school uniforms to school (he is at a school where there is no uniform for Years 11 & 12). Tuesday was a “swap sex” dress up day – and he ended up wearing a dress (something he definitely wasn’t keen on, but when he got to school his friends had something all ready for him to wear and he got into the spirit of the day). Today, is the official “muck-up” day, or as most schools are calling it now “Celebration Day”. There is no particular theme as long as you dress up! There are celebrations, activities and entertainment on the oval for the morning, for the “kids” to wind down and have fun before the hard study slog begins. This morning saw me helping Daniel slathering on green body paint. He decided to go as “The Hulk” – a big move for someone who doesn’t really like fancy dress! It’s so good to see him get into the spirit of things! I think most of the kids will be heading to the beach after the celebrations – so I’m thinking there will be a sea of green around him when he hits the water! It’s going to be 31C today, so that paint could feel a little uncomfortable by the middle of the day! Meanwhile, I’m left with cleaning green goop off the bathroom floor, the tiles, the cupboards, the sink – you name it, it’s everywhere!
