What is friendship?

Friendship is a relationship of mutual affection between two or more people.Friendship is a stronger form of interpersonal bond than an association. A World Happiness Database study found that people with close friendships are happier. Although there are many forms of friendship, some of which may vary from place to place, certain characteristics are present in many types of friendship. Such characteristics include affection, sympathy, empathy, honesty, altruism, mutual understanding and compassion, enjoyment of each other’s company, trust, and the ability to be oneself, express one’s feelings, and make mistakes without fear of judgment from the friend.

While there is no practical limit on what types of people can form a friendship, friends tend to share common backgrounds, occupations, or interests, and have similar demographics.

There are quite a few more definitions of friendship and I’ll spare you those.  Funny though, none of the definitions even came close to what I have with these people.  These friendships in our Life Group are priceless.  A Life Group is a group of people who “do life together” on a regular basis…weekly or more in our case. These friendships started with a mutual desire to become more connected thru our faith. This group has experienced much laughter and many tears. We’ve weathered many life experiences and hit our knees frequently for each other. We’ve helped each other move,  knock out “honey do” lists, provided meals and served the community together.  This week we spent our “downtime” together.  We decided if you could live together for a few days you could weather just about anything.  We’ve seen each other at our worst and best.

Much laughter was had by all this week.  We enjoyed the beach, meals and fellowship along with dancing and learning new games.  I learned how to play Wa-Hoo and they introduced me to pickled okra! I cannot believe I have grown up in the south and never even heard about this wonderful delicacy! YUM!

I got home 36 hours ago and wanted to work on some pages so again chose a Blueprint to get started (and finished) quickly and an Alpha Set as I’ve decided these not only look great they’re easy to use and make my pages look great.

I pray all of you are blessed with priceless friendships in your life.  Friends that support you, and bring out the best in you like my friends do.

Blessings,

Mary

When the church terminology changed from “small group” to “life group” I thought it was unnecessary and a little hokie. However, over the past years, I’ve seen and experienced too what a difference a life group makes, when people truly commit to doing all of life together. The bonds are deeper and so much more meaningful. Thanks for sharing this !

Love the page. I see the marble game, grew up playing that at my grandparents then didn’t play for about 40 years. A few years ago my sister had her husband make a marble board so we could all play again, how fun. You talk about doing life with what I’m assuming is your church home group. I’ve only heard it called “doing life” at one church and that is one in Portland Oregon. So great to know others do too.

This is the first time I ever played that game and really had fun. This was actually a board handed down in her family but I think I’m going to have to get one! This Life Group has been together a few years now. Glad to hear you do this in Portland too! We’re all a bit more alike than different I think! I’ll be in Portland in early January for some training.
