What a whirlwind few weeks I have had! Since the end of August I have only spent a few days at home, and I won’t be back there for another 9 days. Good thing I enjoy travel!! In my blog last month I outlined my schedule, and I have had so much fun!! Here are just a few of the highlights (so far):

First stop Kenya

  • Seeing the Wildebeest Migration. I didn’t get any photos as spectacular as the one I shared last month, but I did get lots of photos I am pretty happy with. Seeing literally hundreds of thousands of wildebeest all around us was a magnificent sight, and especially watching them crossing the river in large numbers, trying to avoid the many crocodiles waiting to feast on the slow ones. It was just like being in a National Geographic documentary!
  • Spending time in Kenya photographing lions, leopards, giraffes, baboons, elephants, cheetahs, gazelles, birds of many kinds and so much more. We had close encounters with a lioness tending to 3 cubs, wild African Hunting Dogs devouring their prey, rare black rhinos, and lazy hippos basking on the river bank.
  • Visiting a Maasai village, and being invited into homes to witness a way of life so different from our own.
  • Seeing the happy smiles on the faces of children at an orphanage we visited, bringing school supplies and candy, and loving the singing and dancing they performed for us.

After a few days at home (just enough time to do some laundry) I flew to Dallas to meet up with my Pixie buddies Mary & Kim. After a couple of days of work preparing for Forever LIVE we jumped in the car for a fun two day drive to Atlanta, stopping at some American institutions like Denny’s, Crackerbarrel and Duck Dynasty HQ. Such a fun ride but the best part was getting to Atlanta for Forever LIVE.

We definitely need a new word for meeting someone face to face that you have worked with for years online! Jan, Mary & I have travelled together before, when they visited Australia, but I have never met Kim, Anne, Tameka, or Penny ‘in the flesh’ before. It is so strange to know someone’s voice so well, and to recognise them from their photos, but yet be in the same room for the first time. It’s been such fun working as a team doing training, answering questions, demonstrating the brand new Artisan 5 software, which we are absolutely loving!!

One of my favourite things of the weekend was meeting so many of the people who regularly contribute to our p2P Facebook community. Many of these people have felt like friends for a long time, as we shared their happy times, births, marriages, children, vacations, travel, gardens, and so much more through their facebook pages. We also shared our lives through our pages and our blogs and it’s so wonderful in this digital world we live in now that we can connect across the miles, and in some cases across the oceans! Meeting so many digital friends in person was just so special. There were lots of hugs (and a few tears) and so many connections made. We were sad to say goodbye but we know those friendships will continue.

Thank you so much for welcoming me as a foreigner to the US. I am still here, and still having a blast! I don’t want this trip to end, but I am looking forward to getting home and having some time to really get stuck into making some pages in Artisan 5!

I am just finding time to catch up on all the blog posts and just have to say I REALLY enjoyed the chance to meet you in Atlanta. The event was wonderful but actually spending real face time with the “FB friends” I have come to know over the years was the best anyone could hope for. I only wish it could have been longer!! I have been rejuvenated to get busy on my pages, books and other projects. The first thing I did when I got home was create a project book using the project sheets the Pixies created. I am slowly checking things off while learning all the new things available in A5. I can’t wait to hear about the next event!!

Shelley, I had such a great time hanging out with you for an extended period of time!

How do you spell FOREVER? P-I-X-I-E-L-O-V-E! Our Pixies are mentors to all of us, and meeting you was like frosting on the cake! Travel safely, dear Shelley, and thank you again for everything that you and the other Pixies have taught me. I am so very blessed!

Great blog, as usual, Shelley! So sorry I could not be in Atlanta. Perhaps, after Australia, Forever will consider a LIVE somewhere here in the Western U.S. or have live webcasts for the rest of us.

Shelley, it was so fabulous meeting you in person! I loved your session on travel photography. Your pages are fantastic…love your style!!

  6. Jo says:

Shelley love your pages. Hope you were talking the other pixies into a Forever Live in Australia. I am so looking forward to hearing about all the features in Artisan 5. So far just blown away. I was always going to learn Photoshop, but am having to much fun with Artisan.

    • Shelley says:

Thanks Jo! Actually Glen Meakem, CEO of Forever said from the main stage that he wants to have a Forever LIVE in Australia specifically, so I’m confident it will happen one day. Yay!!
